Frequently Asked Questions

How do I build my library?

Add one or more folders of samples, loops, beats, or drum kits, and SampleStash scans them into a single searchable library. A built-in folder watcher keeps the library up to date as you add new sounds — no manual re-importing.

My files aren’t showing up after scanning

Make sure the folder contains supported audio or instrument formats (WAV, AIFF, MP3, FLAC, M4A, AAC, CAF, SF2, DLS, EXS24, SFZ, DecentSampler). SampleStash scans recursively, so subfolders are included automatically.

How does auto-tagging and BPM detection work?

SampleStash sorts samples into One-Shots, Loops, Long Samples, and Instruments automatically, and analyzes the audio to estimate tempo. It also reads a file’s musical key from embedded tags when present. You can add your own tags and mark favorites.

How do I find duplicate samples?

Choose File → Find Duplicates. SampleStash groups files by duration, then compares actual audio content — not filenames — so it catches duplicates even when renamed. The library filters to show matches so you can delete the copies you don’t need.

What’s free vs. paid?

Scanning, browsing, tagging, previewing, and organizing your library is free with no limits. A one-time SampleStash Pro in-app purchase unlocks exporting, format conversion, and sound-bank creation. No subscription.

How do I export samples for my DAW?

Select files and use File → Export. Export as WAV, AIFF, CAF, MP3, OGG Vorbis, AAC (M4A), or Apple Lossless at your chosen bit depth — plus FLAC on macOS 11+. You can also extract individual samples from sound banks.

How do I use SF2/DLS banks in GarageBand or Logic Pro?

Use Install to Sound Library to copy banks into the macOS Sound Library. Then select DLSMusicDevice as your instrument plugin in GarageBand or Logic Pro.

How do I reset the app?

Use File → Clear Library… to remove all files from the library and start fresh. Your audio files on disk are never touched. See the User Guide for a full Terminal reset.

Where is my library stored?

~/Library/Application Support/SampleStash/

How do I restore my purchase on a new Mac?

Open SampleStash, try to export or create a bank, and click “Restore Purchase.” You must be signed in with the same Apple ID.

Is there an iOS version?

Not currently. SampleStash is macOS-only.
